Entraining to the Land of Oh My Guouod ALL ABOARD the Cascades
Went with my hosts to some friends dinner party, everyone behaved immaculately. Canadians seem to have a quiet modesty about them. Makes me feel a little gross.
Without going into a story, I spent a summer working as a waiter on the Santa Fe Railroad going from LA to Chicago , end of story sorry!
After the usual anxiety producing check in, though with so few passengers it felt a bit of a farce. Once on board the train (Cascades carries bicycles) proceeds at a leisurely pace, pitching side to side like a covered wagon. The only Indians we encountered were the U.S. Officials at the border. The vastness of the landscape dwarfs the idea of the familiar European countryside, and the proportions of some of the joining passengers mirrors it perfectly.
Though I brought food with me, I just had a coffee in the diner and sat with Barbara another world traveller with spiritual inclinations ( except for the travelling she lives simply, no computers etc.) . She has even stayed at Findhorn , the New Age Community in Scotland. We swapped adventures, she knew about Shakespeare and Company , a book shop in Paris where you can stay for free. She reminded me about not constantly going online and checking my stuff. So don't expect instant replies anymore . Thank you Barbara!
There's a couple in the seats behind and the guy is instructing his friend about all kinds of psychological conditions to avoid. If that what I sound like at times I had better listen to myself more carefully.
The train follows an amazing route hugging the shoreline of Puget Sound, it goes where no road goes. The rain has dried up and the sun is breaking through the thick clouds, and Barbara is keeping me amused with her stories and I'm invited to lunch on my return trip. She said an interesting thing about Servas . Apparently she was interviewed by the founder who lived nearby and she found him unsympathetic, so she never joined.
Who is hoping to set up Urban Agriculture Centres in Oregon a sustainable agriculture movement .
Once again Servas comes up trumps as my hosts a most unusual couple and an 11 year old chap are going to be a delight to be with. Checking my mail this morning Bike Friday, where I'm going today to pick up my mount, has posted a lovely story, so I've added it to Other Wheels.
So it's off to pick up the bike see you all later. PLG Tony
